 The Department of Immigration has taken Tonse Alliance Secretary General Celestine Mukandila into custody as investigations continue into questions surrounding his immigration status. According to the Department of Immigration, Mukandila, aged 36, was arrested at his residence in Mapepe, Chilanga, Lusaka, on Thursday, August 20, 2026. Department Chief Public Relations Officer Namati Nshinka confirmed the development, saying the arrest followed a report concerning Mukandila’s immigration status. Mr Nshinka said Mukandila remains in Immigration custody while investigations are ongoing. “Mr. Mukandila is currently in the custody of the Department of Immigration as investigations into the matter continue,” Mr Nshinka said. The Department has indicated that further information will be provided at an appropriate time as investigations progress.
