 Government Mourns Former Minister Mutotwe Kafwaya, Urges Zambians to Protect Peace

Government has expressed sadness following the death of former Minister of Works and Transport Mutotwe Kafwaya.


Secretary to the Cabinet Patrick Kangwa conveyed Government’s condolences to the Kafwaya family, while stating that no further comment would be made on the circumstances surrounding the death because the matter is currently being investigated by law enforcement agencies.


Mr. Kangwa also condemned statements reportedly made by some individuals following the 2026 Presidential General Election, which called for harm or the assassination of President Hakainde Hichilema.


He described such statements as irresponsible, unpatriotic and criminal, warning that those responsible would be dealt with according to Zambian law.


The Secretary to the Cabinet further urged citizens to use social media responsibly, saying it should be used to inform, unite and build the country rather than create division.


He also expressed concern over increased political insults, trolling and hostility between supporters of different political sides.


Mr. Kangwa reminded Zambians that the country has historically been recognised for its peaceful handling of elections and urged citizens to preserve peace, unity and stability.


He noted that once elections are concluded, the country should unite behind the leader chosen by the majority, who becomes President for all Zambians regardless of how they voted.
